One of the big moments of the episode was when Ethan walked past Harper on the beach and she told him to sit down with her. “I think something might have happened,” Ethan told Daphne, referring to his wife Harper and her husband Cameron, who he believes hooked up during the trip to Sicily.

Meghann gave an incredible performance during that scene, in addition to the rest of the season, and talked to Vanity Fair about preparing for that moment.

“Well, I think we knew going into it that it was a pretty important moment, so we really took our time with it. Mike was great in that way, anyway. I never felt like we rushed through something and didn’t really get a chance to sort of sit with it. And that scene is definitely an example of that. We did it a bunch of different ways. For me, it was really exciting to see how it ended up cutting together, because I didn’t really know what he was gonna choose—which sort of vibe he was maybe gonna pick of the ones that we played with. I love that scene for Daphne. I think it’s a moment for her where she’s, in her own way, being empathetic to Ethan and wanting to make him feel better,” she said.

Meghann added, “I think that the whole storyline there is meant to challenge the parameters of what we would call a functioning relationship are. And I think that with, with Daphne and Cameron, Daphne is trying to teach not just Harper but also Ethan that they have other options. Because that’s how she lives, you know? She’s kind of like, ‘It doesn’t have to be like this. You could get a trainer’ [laughs]. Or like, ‘You could take a walk with me to this island’ And, like, who knows what they did there. I don’t think that she does that to get back at Cameron or anything. I genuinely think in her strange way that’s like an empathetic thing that she’s doing, the way that she’s trying to take care of these people.”

Meghann also talked about the storyline going full circle in the end.

“In a weird way, Harper and Ethan like become Cameron and Daphne at the end because it’s like this sort of secrecy, infidelity — ‘what happened? What happened? What happened?’ — and then finally the tension rises and it serves them,” she said.
