Will Smith Reveals 'Emancipation' Co-Star Ben Foster Didn't Speak To Him For Six Months - Find Out Why

Will Smith is opening up about why Ben Foster didn’t speak to him for six months on the Emancipation set.

During his appearance on Red Table Talk this week, the 54-year-old Oscar winner explained that Ben‘s reasons, and subsequent actions, clicked him “into the next gear of depth and focus.”

While recalling the first day of filming on the movie, Will shared that there were some delays in shooting, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t able to meet many of the actors or extras – except for Ben.

“I think we didn’t even get a shot the first day. There was lightning. There was heat. We had literally lost an entire day, so I’m doing my thing [with] the extras, like ‘Hey thank you very much everybody.’ In my mind I was giving my best Will Smith,” he said, before adding that “Ben just walked past me and didn’t say nothing.”

“I thought, ‘Oh he must not have seen me,’” Will added, revealing that “for six months he didn’t speak to me.”

Will went on, “He didn’t make eye contact with me. He didn’t say a word. He didn’t acknowledge me for six months. But what he did that first day, I was like, ‘Yup, got it. We’re not playing. This is real. We’re not fooling around.’”

Then, on the final day of filming, Will and director Antoine Fuqua were at the monitor in video village looking at a shot when Ben came over.

“He never came over to the monitor ever,” he said, but he did that day. “He watches the shot, and Antoine said, ‘I’m happy. We got it.’ And then I look over at Ben, it’s his last day, he says, ‘Nice to meet you. Ben.’”

Just recently, Will also opened up about his return to acting in this movie is his “greatest fear”.
