Bryan Singer Replaced as Director of 'Red Sonja' Amid Controversy

Bryan Singer has been replaced as the director of the upcoming film Red Sonja amid ongoing allegations of sexual misconduct involving underage boys.

The 53-year-old director was replaced by Transparent creator Jill Soloway, according to The Hollywood Reporter on Friday (June 21).

The film was put on hold in February after The Atlantic published a story in which multiple accusers came forward and claimed Bryan raped them while underage.

Bryan‘s lawyer told the publication that he “categorically denies ever having sex with, or a preference for, underage men.”

Red Sonja is an adaptation of the comic book, following a vengeful warrior known as a “She-Devil with a sword.”

Bryan Singer to Pay $150,000 to Rape Accuser

Bryan Singer has agreed to pay $150,000 to Cesar Sanchez-Guzman, who accused the director of raping him in 2003 when he was just 17.

Sanchez-Guzman filed the lawsuit in December 2017 and alleged that Singer performed oral sex on him against his will and also anally penetrated him.

Singer denies the allegations and still maintains his innocence. The accuser filed for bankruptcy back in 2014 and the case was discharged, but later reopened to include his claim against the director as an asset. Proceeds from the lawsuit would go to his creditors.

“The debtor filed a claim against Mr. Singer that he had no basis or legal right to file,” Singer‘s attorney Andrew Brettler said in a statement to Variety. “Mr. Singer has denied even knowing this individual, let alone allegedly having interacted with him more than 15 years ago. The decision to resolve the matter with the bankruptcy trustee was purely a business one, as litigation costs would well exceed the amount requested by the trustee to pay off the creditors who were owed money when the debtor filed for bankruptcy.”

$61,000 will go to creditors and additional funds will be used to pay for “administration of the case.” Sanchez-Guzman will received the rest of the funds.

An actor from the Fifty Shades franchise came out earlier this year with his own story about Bryan Singer.

Ian McKellen Apologizes for His Controversial Comments on Kevin Spacey & Bryan Singer

Ian McKellen is apologizing after he made a controversial comment in which he suggested that Kevin Spacey and Bryan Singer allegedly committed abuse because they were “in the closet.”

The legendary actor, who is openly gay, made the comments while speaking on the #QueerAF podcast.

“Most of them were in the closet. Hence, all their problems as people and their relationship with other people,” Ian said. “If they had been able to be open about themselves and their desires, they wouldn’t have started abusing people in the way they’ve been accused.”

Ian added that it’s “debatable” if accused individuals like Spacey and Singer should be “forced to stop working.”

“I rather think that’s up to the public,” he said. “Do you want to see someone who has been accused of something that you don’t approve of again? If the answer’s no, then you won’t buy a ticket, you won’t turn on the television. But there may be others for who that’s not a consideration. And it’s difficult to be exactly black and white.”

Ian later issued a statement to apologized for what he said.

“As part of an extended podcast recently, I suggested that if closeted people were instead open about their sexuality they wouldn’t abuse others. That, of course, is wrong,” he said (via Entertainment Tonight).

“My intention was to encourage the LGBT audience I was addressing to be proud and open about their sexuality,” he added. “In doing so, my point was clumsily expressed. I would never, ever trivialize or condone abuse of any kind. I deeply regret my careless remarks and apologize unreservedly for any distress I caused.”

Bryan Singer's 'Red Sonja' Film Being Put on Hold

Millennium Films’ upcoming Red Sonja movie is being put on the backburner.

The news comes amid sexual misconduct allegations surrounding director Bryan Singer, who has not yet been formally removed from the film.

“The project is not on the slate at the moment and is not for sale at the EFM in Berlin,” Millennium said in a statement to Deadline.

The action-fantasy comic book adaptation was set to follow a “sword-wielding heroine with a dark backstory including her sexual assault.”

It was expected to shoot this year in Bulgaria, but that reportedly won’t be happening.

Rami Malek Supports Bryan Singer's Alleged Victims: They 'Deserve to Have Their Voice Heard'

Rami Malek is speaking out on the latest allegations made against Bohemian Rhapsody director Bryan Singer, who was fired from the project in the middle of production.

An exposé in The Atlantic last week accused Singer of having sex with four men while they were underage.

“My heart goes out to anyone who has to live through anything like what I’ve heard and what is out there,” Rami told THR‘s Scott Feinberg during a discussion at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

“It’s awful, it’s remarkable that this happens, I can appreciate so much what they’ve been through and how difficult this must be for them. In the light of the #MeToo era that this somehow seems to exist after that, it’s a horrible thing,” he added.

“I’ve sat here and talked about how everyone deserves a voice and anyone who wants to talk about what happened with Bryan deserves to have their voice heard,” Rami said. “In my situation with Bryan, it was not pleasant, not at all. And that’s about what I can say about it at this point.”

“For anyone who is seeking any solace in all of this, Bryan Singer was fired. Bryan Singer was fired, I don’t think that was something anyone saw coming but I think that had to happen and it did,” Rami added.

Rami has said that he was unaware of the allegations against Bryan while working on Bohemian Rhapsody. He was also approached for the role before a director was attached.

'Bohemian Rhapsody' Deemed Ineligible at GLAAD Awards Amid Bryan Singer Allegations

GLAAD has announced that the movie Bohemian Rhapsody is no longer eligible to receive an Outstanding Film nomination at the 2019 GLAAD Media Awards following the allegations of sexual assault and misconduct made against the film’s director Bryan Singer.

The nominations for the awards will be announced on Friday morning (January 25), but do not expect to see the Queen biopic represented.

“In light of the latest allegations against director Bryan Singer, GLAAD has made the difficult decision to remove Bohemian Rhapsody from contention for a GLAAD Media Award in the Outstanding Film – Wide Release category this year. This week’s story in The Atlantic documenting unspeakable harms endured by young men and teenage boys brought to light a reality that cannot be ignored or even tacitly rewarded,” GLAAD said in a statement to Variety.

Singer’s response to The Atlantic story wrongfully used ‘homophobia’ to deflect from sexual assault allegations and GLAAD urges the media and the industry at large to not gloss over the fact that survivors of sexual assault should be put first,” the statement continued.

Time’s Up also spoke out in tandem, saying, “The recent allegations regarding Bryan Singer’s behavior are horrifying and MUST be taken seriously and investigated.”

Bohemian Rhapsody just received five Oscar nominations, including one for Best Picture.

Brant Daugherty Shares His Own Story Involving Bryan Singer

Brant Daugherty is opening up about what happened when he showed up at an interview to be director Bryan Singer‘s assistant years ago.

The 33-year-old Fifty Shades Freed actor spoke out after a new article was released detailing an investigation into allegations against Singer, the director of Bohemian Rhapsody.

“When I first moved to LA, I was looking for work and found a job listing as ‘assistant to an A-List director.’ It ended up being Bryan Singer’s office. His assistant at the time was doing the interviews. When I got there, he took one look at me and told me I didn’t want this job,” Brant wrote on Twitter.

He added, “I really did want the job so I pushed back a little. He politely told me that this wasn’t a good fit for me. Bryan would have a difficult time working near me. I thanked him and left. This sh-t has been known for years.”

Bryan released a statement in response to the allegations in which he called The Atlantic‘s new article a “homophobic smear piece.”
