Oprah Winfrey strikes a powerful pose in her latest shoot for the September 2017 issue of Vogue, on newsstands August 22.

During her interview, the 63-year-old talk show host revealed the reason she never wanted to get married to her boyfriend of 31 years, educator Stedman Graham.

“Nobody believes it, but it’s true,” she told the mag. “The only time I brought it up was when I said to Stedman, ‘What would have happened if we had actually gotten married?’ And the answer is: ‘We wouldn’t be together.’ We would not have stayed together, because marriage requires a different way of being in this world.”

“His interpretation of what it means to be a husband and what it would mean for me to be a wife would have been pretty traditional, and I would not have been able to fit into that,” Oprah continued.

“Live life on your own terms,” she added.

Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey pair up on the red carpet at the premiere of their new film Lee Daniels’ The Butler on Monday (August 5) at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York City.

The stars were joined at the event by their director Lee Daniels.

Forest brought along his wife Keisha while Oprah brought along her longtime partner Stedman Graham.

Earlier in the day, Forest and Oprah joined their castmates at a press conference for the film at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel.
