Drew Barrymore Fights World Hunger

Drew Barrymore puts on her UN Ambassador Against Hunger hat and lovingly embraces Kenyan marathon world record holder Paul Tergat at a press conference at the Capitol on Thursday in Washington, DC.

The pair toured World Food Program (WFP) school meal projects in Kenya together (Tergat is a former school feeding recipient.)

“I am honored and humbled to accept this challenging and rewarding assignment,” she said of her position as a UN spokesperson. “I can’t think of any issue that is more important than working to see that no schoolchild in this world goes hungry.”

Drew added, “Feeding a child at school is such a simple thing – but it works miracles. School feeding not only fills stomachs, but has a proven track record of boosting enrollment, attendance and academic performance. For just pennies a day per child, this program changes lives – and ultimately can impact the futures of poor countries around the world in a profound way.”

This is a good thing. It is good to see Drew and other celebs involve with working with the UN. Fighting hunger and poverty throughout the world and particularly for children, should be a main focus of the free world. Children are children, no matter the country. Every voice can be heard and not every thing is for PR. Sometimes it is good to just lean a hand.

    Drew is a sweetie pie.

Hope her involvement in this is not temporary.

Well I agree a bit, I MEAN COME A UN SPOKESPERSON, for what?!?

It’s good that these celebs help and fly to africa asia south america etc. but “humbled and

honored to accept HER ASSIGNMENT” excuse me but it’s about the fucking kids starving.

Why do these celebs make it about THEMSELVES?

wtf is Drew Barrymore qualified to be a spokesperson for?

I really love Drew eversince I saw E.T. as a kid!
she was a wild child who changed her life around – for the better!

    Long live Drew!

Good for Drew and that’s great news for those children. The more people involved and shines on worthy causes, will spread awareness and helps in rebuilding social infrastructure. As the saying goes, “a hungry man, is an angry man”.

I think Drew is one of the few hollywood celebs who are offering their help because they actually care, not for any sort of personal self-promotion or publicity.

Good for Drew. The more people are reached, the better. I like Drew. In some ways, her background has been worst then many well loved child living in poverty in a 3rd world country. She’s had to come from a background – where neither one of her parents particularly cared or loved her. Yet, she’s come through with her sense of humour intact, an apparently optimistic outlook on life, making her way in the world.

I don’t care whether its self promotion or because it will promote a worthwhile cause. As long as their actions, both long and short term DOES promote a worthwhile cause. In the words of Deng Hsiao Ping, “Black cat or white cat, what do I care as long as it catches mice??”

I saw Drew’s interview on CNN today – and she was great. Articulate, insightful, passionate and KNOWLEDGABLE. She has traveled to Africa (various countries) and Asia (various countries) on these types of missions, not as a tourist. She is educating herself, and when she was interviewed she made a point of saying, on multiple occasions, that she was learning – but in that learning she was becoming a better person. Furthermore, that by doing this, given how blessed she is, she is trying to do good, not just take.

So – I say kudos, regardless of race, creed or color. Anyone willing to learn and participate in making this a better world than the one we are born in, is only to be applauded.

i wonder if she also offer them weeds like she did with Cameron. sorry, just had to say.

  • Our world is coming to an end…

    I think she is honest.
I saw a picture of her here or on another site once and she held Angelina Jolie’s book about her UN trips and missions to Africa…
I think she has been inspired by AJ and it was a long time wish for her.

    Love Love Love Drew………..

Bow Wow, pick up a dictionary or just wake up genius. “HUMBLED” & “HONORED” are hardly words that someone “flattering” themselves would use. They are expressions of gratitude. It amazes me how the fool can find fault in anything and everything. You don’t like how other people GIVE AND CONTRIBUTE, then go do better. The world awaits.

I hope she wasn’t high or drunk.
