Zooey Deschanel: Broadway Bound as Loretta Lynn!

Zooey Deschanel hits the stage with Loretta Lynn on Thursday (May 10) at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn.

The two sang Loretta‘s signature song, “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” after the country music legend made a big announcement – that she had chosen Zooey, 32, to portray her in the upcoming Broadway production about her life!

“Loretta Lynn and her music have been inspirations for me for as long as I can remember. She is a true legend and to be chosen to play such an iconic woman is a dream come true,” Zooey said in a statement (via People).

No opening date has been announced for Coal Miner’s Daughter but producers said it will not conflict with Zooey‘s New Girl schedule.

“I know Zooey is going to be great – she sings and writes her own songs just like I do, and we even have the same color eyes!” Loretta shared.
