Natalie Cole's Family 'Outraged' at Grammys 2016 for 'Minimizing Her Legacy'

Natalie Cole‘s family is outraged that the late singer was not honored in a more appropriate way during the 2016 Grammys.

The 65-year-old singer – who passed on New Year’s Eve – was remembered in the In Memoriam tribute with other who had passed this past year.

“Sadly a FORGETTABLE tribute to Natalie Cole,” her sisters, Timolin and Casey, told ET. “Words cannot express the outrage and utter disappointment at the disrespectful tribute, or lack thereof, to a legendary artist such as our sister.”

“Here is a woman who has been in the business for four decades, had 21 GRAMMY nominations and won nine GRAMMYs. She deserves more than (to be a part of) a minute-and-a-half tribute,” Natalie‘s son Robert Adam Yancy added. “It was shameless the way they minimized her legacy. We will find solace in her legacy as well as her endless fans around the world.”

Social media immediately erupted after the In Memoriam, and many fans felt similarly.

” she deserves more” I understand that is the son who said that, i cant understand his pain for the loss of his mom, but she had more time than other icons during the In Memoriam.

She deserves more than (to be a part of) a minute-and-a-half tribute

I agree. She’s a legend and a part of a musical dynasty. There was a Lionel Richie tribute and a random five minute Gwen Stefani performance/commercial/music video, so there was definitely time to do it. David Bowie had his own moment and Natalie deserved on, too.

    When you’re dead — you don’t care

of course Natalie deserved more Tony Bennett has often said that the first time he heard her sing it brought him to tears the only other female singer to do so was Mariah Carey. though in these tributes someone is always left out like during the in memoriam at the 2011 Oscars they left out Corin Redgrave but mentioned his sister Lynn who passed a couple of weeks after him

Didn’t deserve more time than what they gave Lionel RIchie, for sure, and not more time than how they honored David Bowie, and certainly not more time than what they spent on Maurice White/EWF, nor BB King or even Glenn Frey. The entire show can’t be about the dead!

I think the Grammys excuse that there was not enough time is poor, dismissive and selective. They gave 7 minutes to that thrown together group of The Hollywood Vampires (don’t get me wrong, I respect Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp and am a huge fan of Joe Perry but that performance was hard to sit through for a whole 7 minutes). They gave Gwen Stefani video aka commercial over 5 minutes. Although, I LOVE the play Hamilton, that time would have better spent on the Tony Awards as opposed to the Grammys. And I’m sorry, Glenn Fry’s tribute was dry as cotton but the Grammy’s managed to give 4 minutes for that tribute. You can’t tell me in a 3.5 hour show they had no time for at least 3 minutes of song in tribute to a woman who has won more Grammys than any of the people I just mentioned (she is a 9 time Grammy award winner). She had a successful career that spanned for four decades (her first Grammy was won in 1976 and her last Grammy was won in 2009). How in the hell could they NOT honor that? It’s awful and there is no excuse.
