Anya Taylor-Joy Talks BAFTA Nomination & Dream Projects

Anya Taylor-Joy has been taking Hollywood by storm this past year with her films Morgan, Barry, Split, and Thoroughbred.

The 20-year-old actress is nominated for the Rising Star Award at this weekend’s BAFTAs, and she is opening up about when she first learned of the nomination.

“I was already awake!” she told Harper’s Bazaar. “I wake up every day at 4 a.m. convinced that I’m late because that’s usually the time I have to be on set. I’m always like, [gasps] ‘Oh my God! No, you’re fine. You can go back to sleep for three hours,’ and then I checked my phone and I was like, ‘Oh my God.’”

“I’d love to work with Damien Chazelle,” she went on. “I’m very much a movie lover; I live for films. I saw Whiplash for the first time in the movie theater: I walked out, I bought a ticket for the next screening and I sat straight back down. I was like, ‘Nope, I’m not done.’ The performances are so masterful. The shots are incredible.”

“I’d also love to do a movie that incorporates dancing,” she added. “I miss dancing very much, but also Morgan really awoke in me the necessity to be physical in something. I did all my own stunts for that, bar one. Just the training for that and the ability to have that as a preparation source for your body – you kind of step into the stance and into the fighter mentality, and that was my way into the character.”
