The 32-year-old actress stars alongside Paul Schneider in the new film The Babymakers, which is in theaters now. Here’s what Olivia had to share:

JJ: What attracted you to do The Babymakers?

OM: There are really funny movies that don’t read as funny (on the script) but this is the script that had me laughing out loud. I’m such a fan of Paul Schneider, I loved him in Lars and the Real Girl. Reading a script and knowing I was going to be working with him for me just made me realize I definitely wanted to do the movie. I loved the script and I love Paul Schneider.

JJ: What is it like headlining a movie?

OM: Not until people have been telling me this have I realized it. I’m a huge fan of Paul‘s so I felt like I was in a Paul Schneider movie. I’m always in an ensemble. When you look at my track records, all of the projects I have been involved with are ensemble casts. So that is how I approached this film. I think I would be very afraid if it ever came to the point that I was leading movies by myself. I don’t think the time is now. I love ensembles so much, and I think it’s much better to surround yourself with great people and learn from them. My job in all of this, working with such great people is that I just want to be believable and make people enjoy the stories.

JJ:You have been doing a lot lately, what keeps you passionate?

OM: Doing The Daily Show, The Newsroom and Magic Mike are choices I make because I just try to surround myself with great people.

JJ: Lets talk about Magic Mike, what was that like looking back at all the fun you had filming and promoting that film?

OM: The movie had a really wonderful timeframe for me. Magic Mike and The Newsroom premiered the same week so it was back to back and it was exciting. It’s exciting to do work that you’re proud of and people are watching and talking about. That is really the most exciting thing. As an actor you want to work, and you hope that people see it and that they like it. I get excited to watch the stuff I do as well, I watch along just as much as everybody else.

JJ: We love The Newsroom!

OM: Aww, thank you so much!

JJ: How exciting is it to be a part of that cast?

OM: I had an NBC show that people say was canceled, but I prefer to say that it was just turned into a miniseries (laughs). That way it’s like it wasn’t canceled. After that you go back into the world of doing other pilots and I heard about the show and read it and I knew that Aaron Sorkin knew my work for The Daily Show and Perfect Couples and I told my reps to against their advice that I wouldn’t go into another show until I had the opportunity to audition for The Newsroom. My people were freaking out because they knew that there were only so many roles on the show and three female leads. I had sure things offered but I wanted to wait for this show. It was a hard decision because it wasn’t that long ago that I was just crossing my fingers to get a national commercial, and here I am. I asked Jon Stewart, and he was the one who gave me the advice. I waited around weeks before even getting the audition but I went in. I just found out not that long ago that I was the only one to audition for my role. I’m glad that I bet on myself and it worked out, because it’s a show that I am so proud to be a part of.

JJ: Don’t you wish you knew from the beginning you would be the only one auditioning?

OM: (laughs) That would have been pretty nice. From where I’ve started to get to where I am today I know how lucky I am, so complacency is not something that I see in my forceable future. Definitely going into the audition telling myself that I had to do this one right, helped me perform better.

JJ: With all the projects you have done what friendships have you maintained with costars?

OM: The creators of Perfect Couples became like my big brothers and I am so unbelievably lucky to have them in my life still. Sarah Jessica Parker is the queen of New York, so I can email her any day and say “where is a great ramen spot?” and she will send me a list of 15 ramen shops. She’s great!

JJ: What’s the next thing on your bucket list?

OM: The next thing on my bucket list would be to just make sure that what I am doing I secure that I am doing a good job at what I have now.
