Retired Soccer Player Lauren Holiday Diagnosed with Brain Tumor While Pregnant

Retired soccer star Lauren Holiday, who is also pregnant with her first child, has been diagnosed with a brain tumor.

The 28-year-old athlete has won a gold medal in the Olympics two times as part of the U.S. women’s national soccer team. Her husband, NBA player Jrue Holiday, opened up about the devastating diagnosis as they await the birth of their first child.

Lauren must wait to have surgery until after the birth of the couple’s daughter.

“My family comes before basketball,” Jrue, 26, told NOLA.com. “I’m obviously blessed to play this game and be in the position I am in, but my wife is the most important thing in the world to me. She comes before anything else.”

Jrue, who plays for the New Orleans Pelicans, announced he will miss time playing this NBA season to take care of his wife and daughter.

Lauren and Jrue shared a selfie earlier in the summer – see it below.
