This MetroCard Dress is a Broadway Costume You Need to See!

The new musical In Transit is officially opening up on Broadway TONIGHT (December 11) and there’s a costume in the show that you just need to see live!

Moya Angela, who you might recognize from competing on America’s Got Talent this summer, gets to wear a dress made entirely out of MetroCards that stops the show every night from the audience’s cheers.

Much of the musical, which features a groundbreaking a cappella score by a team including the creators of Pitch Perfect and Frozen, takes place in the New York City subway, so the dress fits in perfectly.

You can check out a sketch of the dress in our photo gallery, but if you want to see it in action, you’ll have to get tickets to see the musical at the Circle in the Square theatre in New York City!

“The inspiration for the design was really nature of getting underground into the subway system — which were the stairs and the elevators. I was fascinated at the idea of making a inverted step-like structure going around the hips–which also allow us to set the metrocards of off her hips acting like a drop waist gown,” Tony Award-winning costume designer Clint Ramos told us about creating the look.

We also talked to Moya about getting to wear the costume. “I’m absolutely thrilled to be featured in this show stopping dress,” she said. “It fits my body perfectly and allows me to showcase my character’s attitude strutting across stage in it. Clint is absolutely a genius.”
