Stephen Colbert Pays Tribute to David Letterman's Late Mom

David Letterman‘s mother Dorothy Mengering has sadly passed away at the age of 95 and his The Late Show successor Stephen Colbert has written a sweet tribute in her memory.

Dorothy was often featured on The Late Show when Letterman was the host. She made regular appearances before the Mother’s Day and Thanksgiving episodes each year and she also covered three Winter Olympics for the show.

In 1996, Dorothy published a cookbook titled “Home Cookin’ with Dave’s Mom.”

After Dave retired from The Late Show in 2015, Stephen took his position as the host.

“I’m so sorry to hear of Dorothy Mengering‘s death, and so grateful that Dave shared her with us,” he tweeted after the news was made public on Tuesday night.
