Netflix Removes Real-Life Train Disaster Footage From 'Bird Box' Amid Backlash

Netflix is removing footage from Bird Box amid controversy.

The streaming service announced on Thursday (March 14) that they will remove real-life footage of the 2013 Lac-Mégantic train derailment, in which over 45 people were killed when a train carrying crude oil derailed in the Quebec town of Lac-Mégantic. Dozens of homes and businesses were also destroyed.

“We’re sorry for any pain caused to the Lac-Mégantic community,” the streaming service said in a statement.

In the film, footage from the actual catastrophe was featured in a sequence showcasing the world descending into apocalyptic chaos.

The process to replace the clip worldwide with an outtake from a TV series will take several weeks, the company also said.
