Toy Story 4

The unexpected 4th chapter of Toy Story arrives on Blu-Ray and Digital HD.

When Toy Story 3 came out, many believed it was a fitting end to Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the rest of the toy gang. However, to our delight, Disney released a new installment to the lovable storyline of a group of toys as they bond with their new kid Bonnie.

This time, Bonnie reluctantly is headed to kindergarten where Woody sneak’s into her bag as she heads to her school’s orientation to provide her comfort. It’s here that Bonnie creates a new toy friend, Forky, a hodge podge of a spork and arts and crafts material. Forky instantly becomes Bonnie’s favorite toy, but has a bit of an identity crisis since he doesn’t see himself as a toy. The rest of the film, Bonnie and her family embark on a family trip where Woody struggles to convince Forky what his purpose as Bonnie’s toy should look like.

There’s a beautiful storyline that also carries this film, where Woody reunites with his lost love, Bo Peep who has changed quite a bit since she was given away years ago.

Overall, Disney does it again and surprises us with this installment. Just when you thought there was no more story to be told, they pull off a wonderful new story, with a few hilarious new characters to add as well.

The 1080p presentation looks impeccable and really shines in the porcelain textures of Bo Peep’s character. The sound is superb as usual as well.

As for extras, this film’s release has broken the typical Pixar tradition and has chosen not to have a short film in this release. The film does have a few featurettes and extras including deleted scenes, an in depth look of the women of Pixar who helped bring Bo Peep come to life, and other features looking back at the legacy of Toy Story.

This release is a must-have as it brings another nice close to Toy Story. It’s particularly interesting to watch the first one and then this one as we see just how far computer animation has come, it’s something that’s awe-inspiring and amazing. Strongly recommend this release.

And for you collectors out there, there’s a nice steelbook copy of the film exclusively at Best Buy.
