The Good Place's Jameela Jamil Supports Ellen DeGeneres Amid Backlash Over George W. Bush Story

Ellen DeGeneres was seated next to George W. Bush at an NFL game this weekend, and she responded to the backlash over why she, a liberal, was sitting next to a conservative former president.

“I’m friends with a lot of people who don’t share the same beliefs that I have. We’re all different and I think we’ve forgotten that that’s okay that we’re all different…Just because I don’t agree with someone on everything doesn’t mean I’m not going to be friends with them,” Ellen explained.

Ellen‘s response to the backlash still drew a lot of criticism, with several people tweeting things like, “You had a nice cozy chat with a war criminal,” “You know there’s a difference between a difference of opinion vs being a mass murdering war criminal, right?,” and more.

The Good Place‘s Jameela Jamil came to Ellen‘s defense, and tweeted, “I think this was an incredibly strong way to handle this. Really interesting.”

“I’m simply stating that I’ve never seen someone in the public eye handle something like this, in this way. And use it to make what is actually an incredibly necessary point in our society. It was just very strong and interesting. We explore this in season 4 of The Good Place,” she added.

Jameela ended up deleting the tweets, and explains why in another tweet. Click through the gallery to read all her statements…
