K-Pop Star Jessica Jung Writes Young Adult Novel 'Shine' Based on Her Life Story

Jessica Jung is breaking out on the literary scene!

The 30-year-old former Girls’ Generation member and K-pop superstar wrote a Young Adult novel called Shine, acquired earlier in 2019 in a two-book deal by Simon Pulse, an imprint of Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing.

Shine tells the story of Rachel Kim, a Korean-American teenager in training to become the next major K-Pop star.

The novel is set to be released in hardcover, eBook and audio in the U.S. and is scheduled for release in fall of 2020, with a sequel to follow in 2021.

The novel is currently being developed alongside Glasstown Entertainment, co-founded by author and screenwriter Lauren Oliver and author and editor Lexa Hillyer, for film and television at ACE Entertainment, the team behind Netflix‘s To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before.

“With Shine, I wanted to tell a big, fun, escapist story that also examines in-depth, behind-the-scenes aspects of the K-Pop world. My goal was to tell a transparent, candid story—in a way that sometimes fiction does best,” Jessica says.

“This is an incredible opportunity to help tell Jessica’s story across multiple platforms, and to launch a debut that’s as sparkly and enchanting as its creator,” says Glasstown’s President of Publishing Lexa Hillyer.
