Parasite

The seventh film by Korean director Bong Joon Ho, Parasite arrived this week on Blu-Ray.

The heavily acclaimed film managed to rack up 6 Oscar nominations recently including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay.

The riveting suspense thriller isn’t exactly like a traditional horror film but plays as a very well told social commentary about class dynamics and what happens when truth of family disrupts that delicate balance. The film also has cathartic humorous moments pegging it as a comedy as well.

The film follows the poor Kim family which infiltrates the wealthy Park family by pretending to be unrelated highly qualified service workers. But over time hidden secrets are uncovered that threaten not only the Kim family but the Park family as well.

The crux of the film lies within the riveting storytelling which leaves you at the edge of your seat throughout. Director Bong Joon Ho is a masterful storyteller while the cast is excellent in giving nuanced complex performances.

The film is presented in 1080p along with a Korean language DTS-HD soundtrack. English subtitles are available for this version of the film.

Special features are a bit lacking with only a moderator led Q&A with the director and the trailers.

The home release is highly recommended, especially prior to the Oscars where it could be a huge underdog winner this coming award show.
