Netflix Reveals 2020 Year-End Data - Find Out What Was Most Popular Among Viewers!

The Netflix numbers are in!

The streaming platform revealed subscribers’ viewing habits during 2020 on Thursday (December 10) as part of the “What We Watched” feature on their official website.

“Documentaries, reality TV, romance and stories from outside the US saw some of the biggest gains as people sought love, escape and connection through the pandemic,” Netflix reported.

According to the report, in March, as the pandemic started to take hold in many parts of the world, viewers searched for home baking shows with an almost a 50% rise from February, like Nailed It! and The Great British Bake Off.

The most popular food and home shows were Get Organized with The Home Edit, Nailed It!, Million Dollar Beach House, The American Barbecue Showdown and Crazy Delicious, and the top family features were The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two, The Willoughbys, The Angry Birds Movie 2, Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey and Over the Moon.

Sad movie searches also increased nearly 30% in April. October was the biggest month for comedies, including Hubie Halloween, The Wrong Missy, Space Force, Holidate and Kevin Hart: Zero F**ks. Emily in Paris was also one of their most popular comedy series.

Amid the Black Lives Matter protests following the murder of George Floyd in May, titles including 13th were up 5000%, LA92 was up 1300%, Dear White People was up 700%, The Kalief Browder Story was up 500% and American Son was up 270%.

As far as docuseries trends, Netflix notes that “we spent twice as much time watching documentaries and reality TV this year than last year.”

Tiger King and Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez were the top titles. American Murder: The Family Next Door and The Social Dilemma were the top documentary films.

As far as the most popular releases of the year, Floor is Lava, Too Hot To Handle and Love is Blind all came out on top.

“We loved the show so much that it stayed in the US Top 10 for 47 days straight after its release in February – the second-longest run of any title behind Cocomelon at 64 days,” Netflix said of Love Is Blind‘s massive success.

Action was “huge this year” too, with Extraction, Spenser Confidential, The Old Guard, Project Power and Cobra Kai as the top action titles.

Romance features also doubled in 2020 versus the previous year, led by titles like The Kissing Booth 2, Princess Switch: Switched Again and To All The Boys P.S I Still Love You.

Viewing of foreign language titles was up over 50%: The Platform, Barbarians and Rogue City were the most popular foreign-language shows. Korean dramas were also up 100% in the U.S. with Kingdom’s second season and The King: Eternal Monarch as the top K-dramas. Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution and Blood Of Zeus topped the anime picks of the year.

All of these shows have been cancelled by Netflix in 2020…
