Hilary Swank Settles Lawsuit with SAG-AFTRA's Health Plan After They Denied Coverage for Ovarian Cysts

Hilary and SAG-AFTRA reached an agreement in court on Monday (August 9), but details of the settlement have not been released to the public, The Wrap reports.

Hilary first filed her lawsuit in September 2020 where she said that she’s had to deal with ovarian cysts and endometriosis since 2008 and had previously had treatment covered under the SAG Health Plan.

Once SAG and AFTRA merged in 2012, Hilary was transferred onto a new health plan, which continued to cover her treatments until 2015, when she claims the Board of Trustees pulled her coverage.

Hilary claimed that when she tried to appeal their decision, she was rejected.

“My hope is to be a voice for them. SAG/AFTRA Healthplan claim they treat and protect all their members equally,” Hilary said in her lawsuit. “I don’t believe this is true. If you’re a woman suffering from female health issues, I have no doubt you’ll agree with me. If you’re a man, ask your mother, your daughter, your sister, or a girlfriend. I already know the answer. I’m suing SAG/AFTRA Healthplan. It’s time we are treated fairly.”

Just recently, Hilary opened up about why she took an extended break from acting.
