Derek Hough Says He's 'Proud' of How Sister Julianne Handled 'The Activist' Backlash
Derek Hough is addressing the controversy surrounding sister Julianne Hough and The Activist.
If you didn’t know, Julianne, 33, faced a lot of backlash after it was announced that she would be judging the new CBS series, which would follow activists around the world.
Many people called the show “tone deaf” and brought up how Julianne wore blackface with her Halloween costume back in 2013.
Julianne then responded to the criticism, admitting that she is “not qualified to act as a judge.”
During his appearance at the 2021 iHeartRadio Music Festival over the weekend, Derek, 36, responded to Julianne‘s response to the backlash.

“I’m proud of her, man. I think she’s an amazing, amazing woman,” Derek shared with People. “I mean, she’s my baby sister, but I’m learning lessons from her every single day, just about how to be an amazing human being.”
Derek added, “She’s just growing so much and it just, I just, I’m in awe of her all the time. She’s awesome.”
