Alicia Silverstone Reacts to TikTok About Being Body-Shamed on 'Batman & Robin' Press Tour

Alicia Silverstone is looking back at the body-shaming she experienced during the press tour for her 1997 film, Batman & Robin.

On Wednesday (October 20), the 45-year-old actress duetted a TikTok from user @foreversymone, who discussed the media’s treatment of Alicia at the time.

“I want justice for Alicia Silverstone. Y’all had her f–ked up,” Symone said, showing a screenshot of an Entertainment Weekly article titled “A Weighty Issue.”

In the piece, the author compares Alicia to Babe the pig and says the actress is said to be “slimming fast for her role as Batgirl.”

“They were obsessed with her weight,” she added. “As a fat woman who grew up obsessed with Clueless, who grew up obsessed with this movie that is pure camp, it just makes me very frustrated to know that … she couldn’t have been more than 130 [pounds] and they were straight-up ripping on her constantly over this.”

In her duet, Alicia is seen nodding in agreement and tells the fan “I love you!” She captioned the clip, “Justice for Batgirl!”

In an interview last year, the actress reflected on her experience on the film and said it wasn’t her favorite.

“They would make fun of my body when I was younger,” she shared. “It was hurtful but I knew they were wrong. I wasn’t confused. I knew that it was not right to make fun of someone’s body shape, that doesn’t seem like the right thing to be doing to a human.”

The attention from the media and them dubbing her “Fatgirl” made her stop loving acting for a while, but eventually she realized it was something she was meant to do.

“My body was just like, this is what I’m meant to do, I love it so much, I need to find a way to do both, to be able to be an actress and be an activist at the same time so that’s what I did.”
