Jillian Michaels Reveals The One Thing She Didn't Like About 'The Biggest Loser'

Jillian Michaels is looking back at The Biggest Loser.

If you’re unfamiliar, The Biggest Loser focused in on overweight contestants, who aim to transform their bodies and lives with the help of health experts.

Jillian was one of the health experts and trainers on the show to help the contestants lose and keep the weight off, and in a new interview, is shining light on what was wrong with the concept.

During an appearance on Today, Jillian said that no one should’ve ever been eliminated from the show.

“Nobody should have been eliminated. That was my No. 1 issue with the show,” she said. “But the producers gamified weight loss. It was weight loss on a ticking clock.”

Jillian added that the competition series, during her time there, didn’t have an on-site therapist for the contestants. She added that she would actually call up her own mother, who is a psychotherapist, for help.

“The Biggest Loser needed a mental health professional,” she shared. “I think there was some random guy they could talk to if they needed, but these people needed deep work. When you have someone that weighs 400 lbs., that’s not just an individual who likes pizza. There’s a whole lot going on there emotionally.”

There are some methods that she still stands by, including the yelling.

“The ones I yelled at are the ones that kept it off,” Jillian added. “You need them to feel the pain of the way they’ve been living. You need them to have a rock bottom moment where they’re like, ‘I can’t take one more moment.’”
