What Is Wordle? Here's How to Play the Free Viral Word Game!

Wordle is the popular new word game that is taking the internet by storm!

The free online game is not available to play in an app and there’s only one puzzle available each day. The game was created by Brooklyn-based software engineer Josh Wardle as a private game for his wife and it was released to the public in October 2021. Now, hundreds of thousands of people are playing it every day.

The point of the game is to guess the five-letter word of the day in six tries. After each guess, the color of the tiles will change to show how close your guess was to the word:

• A green letter means you have the letter in the right place.
• A yellow letter means it’s in the word, but in the wrong spot.
• A gray letter is not in the word at any spot.

After guessing your first word, you’ll see which letters you have correctly, if any. You’ll have five more attempts to guess the correct word and you’ll be narrowing down the options each time.
