In January 2022, Ryan entered a Bank of America location and handed the teller a note that read (via TMZ), “I would like to withdraw $12,000 cash from my checking account. Please do the money count somewhere else. I’d like to be discreet.”

The teller thought this was suspicious and thus, the police were called for a suspected bank robbery.

Police reportedly detained two people who were outside the bank and waiting for Ryan, plus, handcuffed the director. The police report indicates that the fault lies on the BoA teller, and it was a misunderstanding.

Ryan released a statement to Variety saying, “This situation should never have happened. However, Bank of America worked with me and addressed it to my satisfaction and we have moved on.”

Ryan had been filming Black Panther 2 in Georgia for the past year.
