Oscars 2022: Here's What Will Smith Said to Chris Rock When the Sound Went Out
The sound went out on ABC during that fight between Chris Rock and Will Smith at the 2022 Oscars, but international feeds played the footage uncensored.
The fight started when Chris made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith and her bald head, implying that she should star in a G.I. Jane sequel. If you didn’t know, she has a condition that causes her to lose her hair.
“Jada, I love you. G.I. Jane 2, can’t wait to see it. Alright?” Chris said. After laughing it off, he added, “That was a nice one.”
The sound then went out on the U.S. feed that played on ABC.

Will then got on stage and seemingly slapped Chris, though it doesn’t seem like he actually made contact. Fans are debating if it was a slap, hit, punch, or smack. The sound on the U.S. feed then cut out.
“Wow, wow. Will Smith just smacked the s–t out of me,” Chris said.
Will then screamed from his seat, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f–king mouth.”
Chris then said, “Wow, dude. It was a G.I. Jane joke.”
Will then repeated, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f–king mouth.”
Chris replied, “I’m going to, okay?” He then presented the award.
When Chris hosted the Oscars back in 2016, he also joked about Jada that night.
