Variety Reporter Responds to Kim Kardashian's Claim That Her Quote Was Taken Out of Context

Kim Kardashian faced a ton of backlash recently for something she said in an interview with Variety and she just followed up by saying her quote was taken out of context.

Now, the reporter for Variety who wrote that article is responding to Kim‘s claim.

Kim said in the original interview, “I have the best advice for women in business. Get your f–king ass up and work. It seems like nobody wants to work these days.”

This comment received tons of backlash from women around the world who work hours and hours every day to support themselves and their families, who can only dream about reaching the level of success as someone like Kim.

A former Kardashians app editor went viral when she reacted to the quotes, revealing that she worked days, nights, and weekends for the family and could only afford groceries from the 99 Cents Only Store.

Kim was also asked in the interview about her thoughts on people who say she’s only famous for being famous.

“Who gives a f–k,” she said. “We focus on the positive. We work our asses off. If that’s what you think, then sorry. We just don’t have the energy for that. We don’t have to sing or dance or act; we get to live our lives — and hey, we made it. I don’t know what to tell you.”

In an interview with Good Morning America on Monday (March 28), Kim said that she was taken out of context.

“That statement that I said was without questions and conversations around it. It became a soundbite really with no context,” she said. “I came off off a question right before, which was ‘after 20 years of being in the business, you’re famous for being famous.’ And I…my whole tone and attitude changed with the previous question that went into that question about what advice I would give to women.”

“Having a social media presence and being on a reality show does not mean overnight success. You have to really work hard, even if it might seem like it’s easy and that you can build a really successful business off of social media. And you can, if you put in a lot of hard work,” Kim continued. “It wasn’t a blanket statement towards women, or to feel like I don’t respect the work or think they don’t work hard. I know that they do. That was taken out of context, but I’m really sorry if it was received that way.”

Now, Variety writer and reporter Elizabeth Wagmeister is weighing in. She’s the person who wrote the original article.

“It’s not what she claims. I just reviewed the raw footage. The question was very direct: ‘What would be your advice for women in business?’ The question about being famous for being famous came after that question, actually,” Elizabeth tweeted.

Another journalist tweeted, “Every outlet going with Kim Kardashian saying her comments were ‘taken out of context,’ please do refer to the video for @EWagmeister’s story, which provides the context to the question, which was: ‘What’s your best advice for women in business?’”

In response to that tweet, someone else said, “Doesn’t she repeat the first part of the question in her answer too?” Elizabeth responded, “She sure does.”
