Idris Elba Explained Why His Real-Life Daughter Was Turned Down From Playing His On-Screen Daughter

There’s a reason you won’s see Isan Elba playing her father, Idris Elba‘s daughter in his new movie, Beast.

During an interview with The Breakfast Club, the 49-year-old actor opened up about his newest film and revealed that Isan actually didn’t talk to him for quite a while after losing out on the role in the flick.

Idris said that ultimately, “it came down to chemistry in the end.”

“She was great but the relationship in the film and the relationship with my daughter — the chemistry wasn’t right for a film, weirdly enough,” he adds. “My daughter didn’t talk to me for three weeks.”

Producer Will Packer also opened up about Isan not getting the role.

“Idris was definitely, like, ‘Listen, I want her to go in and go through the ropes, give her a shot, audition.’ He was very tough on her, he auditioned with her, and he was, like, ‘At the end of the day we’re going to make the best decision for the movie,’” Will shared.

He adds, “Sometimes the nuance of the real-life relationship just doesn’t translate on screen.”
