La La Anthony Reveals Why She Believes Her Marriage to Carmelo Anthony Failed

During an interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast, La La said that things started to shift in her marriage after Carmelo was traded from the Denver Nuggets to the New York Knicks in 2011, bringing tons of media attention to the couple.

“When we lived here [in New York] under all of that, that’s when things became complicated,” La La explained. “Now that I look back, that was kind of the start of the demise of the marriage.”

La La continued, “It is the hardest with the scrutiny and the media and the press, just everything. It is really hard. That’s not the only reason things didn’t work out, but things got tough with New York, just constantly being under the spotlight and people watching every little thing.”

La La said that Carmelo‘s busy travel schedule contributed to her having many “sleepless nights,” particularly when he would play in cities that she believes have a reputation for athletes’ infidelities.

“I used to think certain cities, like oh, ‘Those are the problem cities.’ Miami, I’d be like, ‘Oh, I’m definitely not sleeping tonight or I’m going to figure out a way to get there,’” La La recalled. “But here’s what I found out. Be careful with these other cities that you think don’t have as much going on, because those are the ones guys where the s–-t is going down.”

La La and Carmelo first got engaged back in 2004. Their son, Kiyan, was born in March of 2007. They got married in July of 2010, which aired on VH1 as part of La La’s Full Court Wedding.

In 2017, La La filed for separation after Carmelo was accused of impregnating a woman. They reunited briefly in early 2019, but by July of that year, it was revealed that they were living apart.

After two years apart, La La officially filed for divorce from Carmelo in June 2021.
