'Grey's Anatomy' Writer Elisabeth Finch Confesses to Lying About Cancer Diagnosis, Reveals Why She Did It & More in Tell All Interview

On how she was caught…

The Ankler reveals that Finch began telling her Grey’s colleagues that she was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer called chondrosarcoma in 2012. She continued the ruse and said she had to do chemotherapy through 2014, and went through a fake kidney loss, a fake abortion, and more.

In 2019, Finch checked herself into an Arizona facility that treated women who had endured trauma. Finch claims she was abused by her older brother as a child. It was there that she met Jennifer Beyer, who was escaping a broken marriage. They fell in love and married.

Jennifer eventually uncovered the truth about her wife, and confronted her. She demanded that Finch tell the truth to her family and friends. Elisabeth did confess to a few close friends, but then did not continue with her promise.

Jennifer then personally contacted Shondaland and Disney to tell them about Finch’s lies, going as far as to reach out to Shonda Rhimes herself.

Word began spreading about Elisabeth‘s lies, and on her 44th birthday, she was contacted by The Ankler for their initial expose. She ended up hanging up on the reporter and going to see a Broadway show.

When she turned on her phone, she realized the story had broken.

“From that point on, I was cut off pretty quickly from everything,” she shared about the aftermath. “I slowly started to see people blocking me on Instagram and other social media. It was so universal that I don’t know if an email went out or everyone just got together and decided ‘no thank you.’”

Elisabeth is actually featured as an extra in the above embedded Grey’s Anatomy scene.
