The documentary was produced by Robert Downey Jr. and his wife Susan, and in it, the actor reveals he was addicted to drugs by age 8.

Downey Sr. said that while he was playing poker in their family home, he saw his son taking a sip from a glass of white wine. In its place, he offered his son a joint instead. “A lot of us thought it would be hypocritical to not have our kids participate in marijuana and stuff like that. It was an idiot move on our parts to share that with our children. I’m just happy he’s here,” Downey Sr. said in an interview in the documentary.

“I think we would be remiss not to discuss its effect on me,” Downey Jr. says. “Boy, I would sure love to miss that discussion.” He was in and out of prison for years while battling his addictions.

Robert Downey Sr. passed away at age 85 in July 2021 after battling Parkinson’s disease.

Sr. is now streaming on Netflix.

Robert Downey Jr. recently reacted to director Quentin Tarantino‘s criticisms of the Marvel universe and its stars.
