Prince Harry Reveals How He Felt About Kate Middleton After They First Met
In his new book “Spare,” Prince Harry reveals how he felt about his sister-in-law Kate Middleton after they first met.
While Kate met Prince William in 2001 as students, it seems Harry likely didn’t become acquainted with her until around 2005.
In the book, Harry wrote about attending a costume party in 2005 and he references Kate as William‘s “new girlfriend” at that point.

“I liked his new girlfriend. She was carefree, sweet, kind. She’d done a gap year in Florence, knew about photography, art. And clothes. She loved clothes,” he wrote. “Her name was Kate.”
While William was picking out his costume, Harry says that he and Kate “had a great time pointing our fingers at him and rolling around on the floor.”
Harry talked about how he enjoyed laughing with Kate and that he desired having his own serious girlfriend to join the laughter.
“I liked seeing Kate laugh. Better yet, I liked making her laugh. And I was quite good at it. My transparently silly side connected with her heavily disguised silly side. Whenever I worried that Kate was going to be the one to take Willy from me, I consoled myself with thoughts of all our future laughing fits together, and I told myself how great everything would be when I had a serious girlfriend who could laugh along with us,” Harry said.
Harry wanted to make Kate laugh at the costume party through his costume and asked his brother and future sister-in-law for advice. The costume he wore became a huge controversy.
In the book, Harry reveals messages that Kate sent to his now-wife Meghan Markle just days before their wedding.
