Ex-Hillsong Pastor Carl Lentz Addresses Where His Marriage Stands

Pastor Carl Lentz shared an update on social media on where his marriage stands ahead of FX’s The Secrets of Hillsong documentary series, which will premiere May 19.

Carl was terminated from Hillsong Church in November 2020, after admitting he had been unfaithful in his marriage.

“For the last 3 years my entire focus has been fighting for my wife and my kids, my family has been my only priority,” Carl said on Instagram. “In order to do that, seeking sobriety and healing had to run parallel with those goals. Honestly nothing else mattered. None of the noise, the lies, none of the half truths that were said about me and or us, mattered.”

He added they are in a much better place that they, “celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary on May 5th,” but “got to do that in the purest way.”

Carl had been the pastor of several celebrities including Justin and Hailey Bieber.

“Part of the healing from that heartache led us to the decision to be a part of a documentary that we do not control, that we don’t have any say in and that we haven’t even seen yet. We’ll see it when the world does,” Carl wrote.

In addition to his admission of infidelity, Carl was accused of sexually abusing his nanny in May of 2021. Pastor Leona Kimes, who was on staff with his church, wrote, “While he never had intercourse with me and never kissed me, I was physically violated by his unwanted and repeated sexual touching of my intimate areas. I froze. Every time, I froze.”

FX’s The Secrets of Hillsong premieres May 19 and streams on Hulu.

In 2021, Carl‘s wife Laura took to Instagram to address the cheating scandal on the day of their 18th wedding anniversary.
