Miley Cyrus Was Recast in 'Guardians of the Galaxy 3,' Director James Gunn Reveals Simple Reason Why

Miley Cyrus had to step back from her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

If you forgot, the 30-year-old “Flowers” superstar made a brief cameo playing a character named Mainframe in a post-credit scene for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Mainframe returned for the third entry to the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.

However, she was no longer played by Miley, who was replaced by Tara Strong.

Director James Gunn briefly explained what happened earlier this month.

Taking to Twitter, James did a quick Q&A with fans, where he said that he would only answer yes or no questions. One fan asked a couple of questions about Miley.

“Was Miley Cyrus not able to reprise her role from Guardians 2? Was that the same character,” they wondered.

True to his word, James only responded “yes” to both questions, confirming that Miley was recast since she was unable to commit to the project.

While she wasn’t in the movie, one of Miley‘s very famous friends did land a role.

As you might remember, earlier this year it was revealed if Harry Styles was planning on reprising his MCU role after making his debut in Eternals.
