Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich told Netflix that the third season was “the culmination of what we’ve been building toward all along” and hinted that the season would highlight the key belief that “family is worth fighting for.”

Henry agreed, noting that “there is a real threat” this time around and that Freya Allan‘s character Ciri is in legitimate danger.

“It’s genuine; it’s no longer theoretical — it’s practical. And it’s very, very dangerous. They are walking into the lion’s den everywhere they go,” he continued.

While his character Geralt has been “very nonchalant” in the past, the dangers for Ciri “changes his entire perspective on things.”

Henry added that Geralt’s neutrality was “still very much intact.”

“Geralt has seen how politics work out. A lot of it’s incredibly selfish. No matter which side anyone’s on, they’re doing the thing for them. He’s like, ‘Why would I pick a side when the same thing’s going to happen,’” he explained.

Vol. 1 of the third season arrives on June 29, and Vol. 2 follows on July 27. Check out a trailer for the third season of The Witcher.

Sources have spoken out about why Henry will be leaving The Witcher after the third season.
