Ty Pennington Had Surgery Just Days After Attending 'Barbie' Premiere in LA

Ty Pennington had quite the scare after attending the Barbie premiere in Los Angeles.

The 58-year-old carpenter and home renovation show star revealed that he had to go to the hospital in Denver after he was unable to breathe – and ended up in the ICU!

Sharing his ordeal on Instagram, Ty revealed that he had developed a growth that was cutting off his airway.

“From the red carpet, to the ICU… this last week has been interesting!” he started with his caption on the post, which featured a slideshow of images from the hospital.

Ty added, “To shed some light on why I was MIA… Sunday I hit the red carpet for @barbiethemovie, Monday I flew to Colorado to start filming in Breckinridge and Tuesday morning I woke up at 4am and could barely breathe 😰.”

“Turns out,” he says, “that sore throat I’ve had for the last month was actually an abscess which had grown so large it was closing off my airway. Next thing I know, I was intubated and flown to the ICU in Denver.”

Ty is recovering now and on the path to a clean bill of health.

“Thank you so much to all the amazing staff at St.Anthony’s in Lakewood, CO & Summit Health in Frisco for taking such a great care of me 🙏🏼🙏🏼” he said, giving the health facilities and their staff a shout out. “A great reminder to LISTEN to your body when it’s telling you something 😳😅 #justhappytobehere.”
