Seth MacFarlane Explains How 'The Orville' is Breaking Ground

Seth was joined by co-stars Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, Mark Jackson, Halston Sage, J. Lee, Scott Grimes, Chad L. Coleman, and Peter Macon.

Earlier in the day, the cast attend the Fox panel to talk about the new show and Seth explained how the series is breaking new ground.

“The show is seeking to break a bit of new ground, tonally,” Seth said (via THR). “It’s not something that has been done on TV in recent years, at least in the hourlong format … we really do see it as a sci-fi comedic drama. We allow ourselves room for levity in the ways that a traditional hourlong show doesn’t.”

FYI: Halston is wearing a Victoria Beckham dress at the panel. Adrianne is wearing a white Jay Godfrey dress at the party.

Seth MacFarlane Spoofs Star Trek in 'The Orville' - Watch the Comic-Con Trailer!

Seth MacFarlane is joined by The Orville co-stars Adrianne Palicki and Halston Sage for a panel at 2017 Comic-Con on Saturday (July 22) in San Diego, Calif.

The actors, along with cast members Mark Jackson, J. Lee, Penny Johnson Jerald, Chad L. Coleman, Scott Grimes, and Peter Macon, debuted new footage from the upcoming Fox comedy series.

The Orville is being described as a mix between Seth‘s show Family Guy and the beloved series Galaxy Quest. Some people are also considering it a Star Trek parody!

Officially, the show is “a one-hour science fiction series set 400 years in the future that follows the adventures of the U.S.S. Orville, a mid-level exploratory vessel. Its crew, both human and alien, faces the wonders and dangers of outer space, while also dealing with the familiar, often humorous problems of regular people in a workplace…even though some of those people are from other planets, and the workplace is a faster-than-light spaceship.”

The Orville premieres on Fox on September 10.
