John Mayer - Michael Jackson Tribute

John Mayer performs “Human Nature” at the Michael Jackson public memorial service held at Staples Center on Tuesday (July 7) in Los Angeles.

“I’m honored to have been asked to play at MJ‘s memorial service,” the 31-year-old performer said. “I will be representing all of us who can’t be there. Going to say goodbye from all us kids. I also want you to know that I’m going not to ‘perform’ but to contribute… Proud to be a musician.”

He did a great job.. really beautiful. very talented man..

  • Pollyanna

Mayer did a nice performance. The performance very much felt like he and the other musicians were playing back-up for an absent singer; MJ.

  • Davids

    Just can’t top the king

There isn’t anyone who can top MJ, and nobody ever will.

  • http://Thedressisadorable YES!

John Mayer is all anout John Mater. This guy is known to be the cheapest singer in Hollywood.
The guy has milliones and gives nothing to charity.

  • dali

All I want to hear is John’s music, I don’t care about his personal silliness lol.

  • May

Amazing. I just wished he sang too.

  • Tarynd

i did not like his performance that well but i think that Jennifer hudson did a good job. but i will never forget the tearful words Paris his daughter had to say i broke down into tears alongside her. Brooke also touched me with the memories she had to share. my best wishes for the family and others.

  • mmsic

John Mayer wasn’t there to top MJ,he was there to pay tribute and what a great performance. As May said,I just wished he sang too!

  • Raquel

This was well done, HE did well, and i am not even remotely a fan.He looked hot as well, for the first time i thought that. When they showed him from the profile his a*s looked yummy, hahah.

But what a beautiful ceremony for the KING!

  • an oldie

First time I liked John Mayer. Stay away from fame wh*ring and you’ll go a long way, John. Fame wh*ring means false relationships too, John.

  • Hate bey

    @dali: you’re my hero… well said, i hate her!

  • lakers fan in boston

looks like he’s having a fun time

  • Zoz

it’s about the king not showing off his guitar skills.somberness after al sharpton .he did great.I see the family was very selective in the performer s they chose and I don’t think anyway was trying to upstage him.

  • dfjfj

    That was amazing.

  • sILVIA

    Yes, he did very well.
You can tell he is a great lover.

  • LuckyL

A great reason so no longer dislike Mayer

  • http://none SoInlove

    Sexy and delicious !!!

  • Syncyr

John’s performance brought tears to my eyes…I love this song!!! The instrumental without the vocals was a fine tribute…reminding us that the music is still all around us, the living voice is gone forever…WONDERFUL, absolutely WONDERFUL! It’s up to us to keep him alive however possible…Michael was influential to everybody that grew up in that era…and his works live in in many musicians…he was quite the inspiration, even as a little pipsqueak in the beginning…a pint-sized bundle of energy and talent. He will be missed! I hope that his children, thankfully, finally unveiled, will be able to live a normal childhood and understand that the things that their father was accused of, have nothing to do with them or his talent. I pray that they will grow up to believe in the humanitarian side of what their father stood for and love him for what he stood for for them. HUGS kids!

Love him or hate him – John Mayer is an amazing talent. There’s no denying that.

    I happen to love him.

  • note4

Lovely restrained performance tailored to the event. There is a time and place for everything. Kudos John was not there to raise the rafters. He was there to salute the fallen brother artist.

  • Zoz

Mike isn’t fallen he’s high in the sky with the who before him died

  • Still don’t like him

I’m glad he didn’t sing. I wish he wasn’t there at all. I’m sick of him. Most of the stars like him are trying to use this to restart their own career. I’l bet Mayer begged his behind off to be there.

  • Lee

One good thing going for him-he dumped Maniston twice. May be he is on his way back to the real world instead of that fake Hollywerdo world he went to.

  • xero

Yes, he plays the guitar like he’s making love to it. And it’s singing like a woman in love. Love it :) Totally.

Lovely restrained performance tailored to the event. There is a time and place for everything. Kudos John was not there to raise the rafters. He was there to salute the fallen brother artist.
I really liked how reserved he was too. It really kept the air of solemnity.

  • xero

@LuckyL: I agree. It was tasteful and appropriate. And like another person said, it was as if he was playing back up. That was very thoughtful actually. But like another person said, he’s undeniably sexy and you don’t forget that just because of where he is playing or why. It’s just that it was probably a very sad event and yes everyone was very solemn there I am sure. He did the right thing.

  • elizabeth

what an awesome performance of him.

  • lizzie

I haven’t liked who John Mayer has become as a personality, but he was spot on for this tribute. Human Nature is my favorite. MJ is like no other, and Mayer has all the human faults along with the talent.

  • Eric

John has to climb up the ladder on someone’s back.

  • xero

@Eric: Defend that statement please. I disagree with you. He’s not related to anyone in the industry so he obviously climbed up on his own talent, hard work, and will right? So unlike others in the industry.

  • yummy

I wonder if John makes those faces while having sex! i would sure like to find out.

  • mmsic

@Syncyr: Very good post,Syncyr.I totally agree with you 100%.

  • Zoz

@Eric: Jealous.Mayer made it o n his own.He was also one of the few invited to celebrate him.Mayer is well respected in the industry. No tabloid crap will change that.

  • Jolie

Absolutely beautiful! Love you and your music!!!

  • Jill

The guy may be a creep, but he’s an awesome talent.

  • LYNN

John Mayer you did a good job and I am sure Michael love it , I think I read somewhere that Michael alway thought you to be a great artist. You should get back to doing the business of what you do best.

  • LYNN

Forgot to say John Mayer looked so hot. He looked so young and clean. He should always keep his hair that length. Get back to doing what you are used to doing.

  • fea2

    Love him ;D
and I thought he was the best one nthat stage today!
    Very classy tribute.

  • j

that was a sincere performance. i love it. rest in peace, mj.

john, stop baiting the paparazzi and you’ll be okay. all this gossip surrounding your personal life is taking the focus off your music and your amazing talent.

  • North

I never got this song…such bad grammar…”WHY DOES THEY DO THAT WAY” I didn’t listen to it just because it was so ignorant sounding. In most interviews Michael Jackson sounded sooo uneducated. I’m glad he saw to it that his “kids” got an education.

  • rocky

I don’t know the man personally, so I’m NOT going to say nasty things about him. All I know is he’s an AMAZING performer and was a ‘class’ act yesterday.
