OlderBrett Ratner Resigns as Oscar Show Producer
Brett Ratner will no longer be producing the 2012 Academy Awards.
“I called [the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences president] Tom Sherak this morning and resigned as a producer of the 84th Academy Awards telecast. Being asked to help put on the Oscar show was the proudest moment of my career. But as painful as this may be for me, it would be worse if my association with the show were to be a distraction from the Academy and the high ideals it represents,” the 42-year-old director said in a statement (via THR, which first reported the news).
The announcement comes just a few days after Brett used a gay slur during a screening and later apologized for saying false comments about having sex with actress Olivia Munn.
Eddie Murphy, who worked with Brett on the new film, Tower Heist, is set to host the Oscars.

Umm…WTH is going on with this guy??? He comes out of nowhere with the Olivia comment, then a gay slur, then apologizes for both, then resigns from the Academy. One hellova week for him!

Seriously, homosexuals need to grow a pair and stop being so sensitive. Everyday, heterosexuals, crime victims, ethnic groups, and others are offended by stupid comments, yet no one makes a big deal about it. @jerky: He has freedom of speech, he’s not being arrested, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t ramifications for the things we say.
Hasn’t everyone in Hollywood had sex with Olivia Munn?? He just didn’t want to be left out.
Freedom of speech protects you from the Government, not consequence. I would have been FIRED from my job if I used language like that, let alone be given the opportunity to resign.

Let’s face it, no one knows what to do with that hideous Oscar telecast. I am sure Brett Ratner saw the handwriting on the wall and used the “****” reference to bow out of making a fool out of himself.
