HECK YEAH! She’s going to be maleficent…. I mean…. Magnificent XD I think for the very first time in my whole entire life, I’m gonna root for the villainess hehe. As I bet Angelina will be astonishingly stunning as Maleficent. The other “beauty” (I know she’s gonna be quite pretty and kind-hearted) they’re going to hire can already go back to sleep. =) Hope this is true! I’m much more excited for that than for Snow white. There has so many Snow white movies. I don’t even remember of one Sleeping beauty movie so that should be interesting. Can’t waiiit<3

mix of the powerful and the ridiculous, and eventually the ridiculous wins

In the Land of Blood and Honey captures the sickening way the war in Bosnia became a gray zone of genocide. Yet that, unfortunately, is not enough to make it a good movie.

Despite its obvious sincerity, it feels like nothing so much as the world’s grimmest Lifetime movie

In her deep desire to send a message about the atrocities committed in Bosnia between 1992 and 1995, [Jolie] forgets to spend much time on emotionally interesting characters for her audience to follow.

The tendency that often sinks Angelina Jolie’s performances — overemphasizing certain naturalistic behaviors at the expense of well-rounded characterization — more or less sinks her first film as writer-director

  • Molly

@teri: They could make a movie with her in it doing nothing but sitting on a corner selling apples, and I would pay my 10 bucks to see it. Maybe see it even twice

#4 Thanks for this link. You meant it for harm but it is really pretty good.

“In Jolie’s best performances, she draws on some thing rough and fearless and a little self-destructive within herself. Her directorial debut reflects that complex core — and has a clear point of view, passion, and strong acting. It’s an impressive debut from a thoughtful, compassionate, sexual artist. Give Jolie her props: The Golden Globe nomination isn’t just an attempt to curry favor to get her to attend the awards dinner beside best-actor nominee Pitt; she definitely earned her free meal. And I, for one, am interested to see what she’ll do next.
I think the JP fans will agree! And the comments are very positive.

Ajla (Zana Marjanovic) hangs Bosnian Serb soldiers’ clothes to dry at the prison camp in director Angelina Jolie’s film “In the Land of Blood and Honey.”

For her first time behind the camera as director, and with pen in hand as screenwriter, Angelina Jolie proves that she’s paid attention throughout her acting career, not only to what’s happening on the set, but also to what makes for a provocative script.

“In the Land of Blood and Honey” is a riveting, well-told, keenly acted, often tough-to-watch story of love and hate, friendship and betrayal, tenderness and brutality, patriotism and political upheaval, all played out with the 1990s Bosnian War as a backdrop.

Movie review: ‘In the Land of Blood and Honey’ Jolie pulls no punches in directing debut

After experiencing the compelling and disturbing “In the Land of Blood and Honey,” no one should ever accuse Angelina Jolie of being afraid to jump into the deep end of the cinematic pool with her directing debut.

The 36-year-old actress, who also wrote the script, creates a shocking drama about ethnic-cleansing that unfolds in the 1990s during the Bosnian war that devastated the Balkans region.

NEW YORK (WABC) — I certainly had no idea that one of the world’s biggest stars had what it took to be a great director, but I am a believer now.

Angelina Jolie chose to make her first movie “In The Land of Blood and Honey” on unfamiliar turf — outside of her comfort zone.

Should I keep on going troll???

  • Jen

Yes. The Troll is definitely lacking in the art of reading and comprehending what one is reading.
Here is another bit from that article.
“Asking recently about “In the Land of Blood and Honey,” a friend was a little worried that it might be … good. Angelina Jolie, she explained, was so beautiful, so rich, and so married to Brad Pitt — well, if she turned out to be a great director too, it just might be too much for a normal woman to bear. Well, no worries. Angelina Jolie is still beautiful, rich, and married to Brad Pitt. But judging by “In the Land of Blood and Honey,” there’s still at least one thing even she could use a little improvement in.”

” A LITTLE improvement…….. for a first time director is a great comment. And the fact the friend was worried it might be good….. because Angelina has so much already, especially being married to Brad Pitt and being so beautiful. That is MORE than the troll can bear.

  • Laranjen

Well this role would not exactly be a stretch…

  • DC Jones

Jones- I saw your post on the other thread re: ITLOBAH showing in DC. It is having a DC it’s premiere at Landmark on E Street on Jan 13–the Holocaust Museum is also involved in the event. Angie & Zana are said to be attending- hopefully, Brad, too! I think after that, it will be showing in DC area theaters.
    Jones @ 01/06/2012 at 8:50 pm

    Thumb up Thumb down +1

I’m surprised Angie’s film isn’t playing here in Washington, DC. Sometimes, DC folks get thrown a bone because of our close proximity to New York and we get the benefit of seeing a film early when New Yorkers first get it. I was sure that would happen with ITLOBAH and was surprised to discover we weren’t going to get it in December. You would think a film about the Bosnian war would have a audience in DC, especially since there is a large Bosnian community here. I just don’t get it.

The JP fans shouldn’t feel bad. Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close got some bad reviews and it stars two Oscar winners. The trolls are piss because both Brad & Angie received many recognitions this year. I am 1000% sure the trolls will scream lot more when they see Pittporn at Palm Spring Film tomorrow.

Looking forward to Angie doing this project. I am sure her kids will love the movie.

  • Jones

@ DC Jones #41 – Thanks for the info. I knew it was coming, I just thought we’d get it earlier. I guess I can wait another week. I expected it to be coming to Landmark E Street. I’ll definitely be there.

I agree. She will do a “Maleficent” job…..heheheh!!

  • my opinion

@Dazzler: I respect your opinion but I disagree. I cannot wait to see how she plays the character. I have always thought that she needed something meatier but Hollywood doesn’t know what to do with her so they put her in action. She has a strong presence on screen and so she doesn’t fit most roles but i think maleficent might be a good fit

  • Jones

LOL! Trolls are unhinged because tomorrow (Jan 7) is Brad Liberation Day! Brad’s 7th anniversary celebrating the detachment from that life-sucking Tick and gaining a true equal and life partner with Angie. Seven years and six kids later, he’s still going strong and the trolling hens got nothing but a self-professed, extension wearing, botoxed fvcktard who calls herself a “natural beauty,” has her publicist buy all her awards and who can’t carry a film to save her life. Throw in her stolen boyfriend, who can’t seem to secure work for himself, and you have the two biggest jokes in Hollywood. ‘Nuff said.

  • Jan 10 not 13th?

FYI- the DC premiere is actually at the Holocaust Museum on Tues, Jan 10th.

Angelina Jolie will be in Washington next week for the D.C. premier of her movie “In the Land of Blood and Honey,” along with film’s stars Zana Marjanovic and Vanesa Glodj. The movie, set in Bosnia during the Bosnian war, marks Jolie’s debut as a screenwriter and also as a feature director (she previously directed a documentary). The premiere will take place at the United States Holocaust Historical Musuem on Tuesday evening, with the museum’s Director of Genocide Prevention Michael Abramowitz also slated to walk the red carpet. Jolie’s hubbie, actor Brad Pitt, may also be joining her, but it’s not yet confirmed.

“In the Land of Blood and Honey” opens in Washington at the Landmark E Street Theater Jan. 1

    my opinion @ 01/06/2012 at 10:59 pm
I really don’t think its a case of HW not knowing what to do with her. It’s more a case of her needing to take a break to function properly that’s why she does action movies and other non-dramatic movies. Gia affected her a great deal, she had to take a break. After GI I believe she went to NYU for a while. She did TR which sent her life in another direction. Soon after there was Maddox then a divorce. She became a single mom.
Notice that she didn’t do another intense dramatic movie until she was settled with Brad (AMH), because she had to always be there emotionally and physically for Maddox. Then her mom died; she needed Wanted. Changeling took a bit out of her, because it made her wonder if something like that could happen to her kids. She had the twins, then she needed Salt to make her feel strong again, not just Mommy. Blood and Honey was really heavy and up until the NYC premier she was extremely nervous and tense. In a few of her interviews she mentions that her family thinks she should do something fun. The majority of her roles are usually picked based on what she needs in her life.

YES! I love AJ and I would love to see her act more, I think she fits the part! (Not in a bad way though) and half the things ppl say about her are not true! I think she is a wonderful person and has done sooo much for UNHCR and I think her adopting from different parts of the world is amazing and I respect her a lot! Love you AJ!
