Pete Seeger Dead - Folk Singer Dies at 94

Folk singer and songwriter Pete Seeger has died, according to The New York Times.

The 94-year-old singer passed away due to natural causes at the New York Presbyterian Hospital on Monday (January 27), his grandson Kitama Cahill Jackson confirms.

“He was a second father to me, he was a friend, he was a best friend,” Kitama told CNN. “He was just this wonderful, genuine person.”

In case you didn’t know, Pete was known for his classic songs “Where Have All the Flowers Gone,” “Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is a Season)” and “If I Had a Hammer (The Hammer Song).”

Our thoughts go out to Pete‘s friends and family during this difficult time.

    RIP. I didn’t know him or his music but he seemed to be a lovely man and , at least as far as I’ve read, seems to have done a lot of good things both as a musician and an activist.

    Seeger wrote the number one hit for the Byrds “Turn, Turn Turn” as well as Guantamera, “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”, “If I had a hammer” “Where have all the flowers gone.”

    He also went to Harvard and eschewed the life of a ceiebrity.

    Just heard the 1985 Interview Pete Seeger did on ‘FreshAir” (89.5 fm) today…his voice even @age 65 still sounded pretty ‘smooth’.
