Taylor Swift Says She Has No Female Role Models in Music

Taylor Swift keeps cozy in knee-high boots and a sweater as she heads out of her apartment on Thursday afternoon (November 13) in New York City.

Recently, the 24-year-old singer revealed that she hasn’t found any female to look to as a model of where she’d like her career to go.

“We’re taught to find examples for the way we want our lives to wind up,” Taylor told Time magazine. “But I can’t find anyone, really, who’s had the same career trajectory as mine. So when I’m in an optimistic place I hope that my life won’t match anyone else’s life trajectory, either, going forward.”

She continued to say: “I do have female role models in the sense of actresses like Mariska Hargitay. I think she has a beautiful life, and an incredible career, and I think she’s built that for herself. She’s one of the highest paid actresses—actors in general, women or men—on television, and she’s been playing this very strong female character for, what, 15 years now, something like that. And Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa. I really love her business, and how she sticks to who she is, and how people relate to it.”

FYI: Taylor is wearing Black Orchid jeans and an Aldo handbag.

This might not go over well, but every day is too much for threads about someone who doesn’t get any comments, don’t you think? What’s the fascination with Taylor? Her wardrobe? It looks like she gets dressed with the sole intent of being photographed. How grounded is that? Has she no mission or purpose or work to do?

  • Jay

I think they want us to be fascinated, but it’s not working. Time magazine just put her cover on their instagram page and the comments weren’t even negative people were just asking why?? Why is she on time. She doesn’t have an adult audience.

  • Jay

Wow how disrespectful and how arrogant! Like damn!!
    Her ego is something else.

  • kellyf

You’re right. There are 400 of this exact same picture, just different outfits. Every day, leaving her apartment in a trying-too-hard outfit. No one cares. Also, it looks like all the coke is starting to catch up with her face.

  • AlarTruve

Building her own legacy. Love her more with every story i see. Also how she supports female rappers and thinks they are treated like trash only because they are not male. So true.

  • Jay

Why make it clear that you have female role models in other industries just not in music. It’s bitchy. She didn’t have to say that. She could have stopped at no female role models in music, but she had to make it clear. ‘In other industries, I have female role models. I just struggle to find a woman in music’. She had to snub those that came before her…why?

  • lejla

So many ARE fascinated. Although I don’t listen to her music she raised her self to another level with her latest album and people respect that.

  • lejla

    I agree on this.

  • mm366

I actually agree with you 100% I’m thinking it was/is more than a bit condescending as well as narcissistic. All the amazing; “WAY more amazing than her in my op” fab female singer/songwriters who’ve gone before and she can’t name one who she can at least give props to? As soon as I feel I’m liking her, she blasts the hope of that possibility to smithereens and I have start all over again from scratch.

  • bbm

ok, how many times does she change clothes a day?

  • Lola

I think she’s acting a bit too self involved. She seems to think she knows everything. It’s a shame she can’t look up to one single singer.

  • b324

Almost 100 years of big name singers to choose from and there is absolutely NO ONE you can admire? That…is incredibly sad on your part, Taylor.

  • BarbaraBB16

    Narcissistic bitch!

  • TeamBella76

I really want to love her and be a fan but comments like this make her out to be stuck up and I don’t like that ! She seems nice but we don’t know the real Taylor and if this whole thing with her fans is fake.

  • TeamBella76

Trash or not if that’s the real them ok but Taylor acting stuck up and maybe being fake is NOT COOL !

  • Sprite

Just be yourself is doing well.

  • liz

she seems to think of herself as sooo unique and different, which is complete and utter bullshit. she is just as ‘Hollywood’ as all the other top selling female artists. she is just better at embarrassing herself to the point where people feel like “wow, she dances awkwardly and can’t really sing so she must be down to earth!” i am a female musician and tho i’m not famous i can name tons of inspirational females who can sing better than me and sing WAY better than taylor. ella fitzgerald, to name one.

  • sean

OF COURSE SHE DOESNT !!! ONLY MUSICIAN ON EARTH WHO DOESNT HAVE ROLE MODELS-ARROGANT TALENTLESS DOUCHEBAG !!!!

  • Avril

I strongly recommend you to read the full article. She explains what she means by not having any role models in the music industry.
She didn’t say she doesn’t admire anyone, she said she hasn’t got any role models because she wants her career to go a different path than the rest of celebs’.
She doesn’t wanna ‘copy’ anyone’s style.

  • Avril

So bad that “singing well” is not the only thing you need to success.

  • Avril

“She seems to think she knows everything.”
If you listened to her interviews and her introductions before her songs, etc you would know she has said several times that she doesn’t know everything and that she’s learning a new lesson everyday.

  • Avril

She didn’t say she doesn’t admire anyone, she just said she doesn’t have a role model because she wants her career to go a different path that other people’s.
She says the people she admires have been attacked by the media to the point where they had to quit their careers and she doesn’t want that to happen to her. She wants to have her own style, her own career and not ‘copy’ anyone else’s. That’s what she means by not having a role model.

  • Lola

it’s not enough to say that, it’s how she behaves. actions always speak louder than words.

  • Avril

Then you should know she doesn’t seems to think she knows everything. Unless you’re not able to understand her sense of humor.
