'Harry Potter' Actor David Ryall Dies at Age 79

Sad news – British actor David Ryall has passed away.

Best known most recently for his role as Elphias Doge in the seventh Harry Potter film, 2010′s Deathly Hallows: Part 1, he died at age 79 on Christmas Day.

Sherlock actor Mark Gatiss broke the news on Twitter, writing, “The great David Ryall left us on Christmas Day. A twinkling, brilliant, wonderful actor I was privileged to call a friend. RIP.”

His daughter Charlie also later confirmed the news via social media.

Our thoughts go out to her and all of David‘s family and friends during this difficult time.

David‘s career spanned more than five decades and included credits in 1980′s The Elephant Man, 2004′s Around the World in 80 Days, 2008′s City of Ember, as well as BBC’s Outnumbered, The Village, The Singing Detective, and more.
