'American Sniper' Easily Tops Weekend Box Office Again, While 'The Boy Next Door' Has Solid Opening

American Sniper has won the weekend box office once again with a whopping $64.4 million gross!

According to THR, the Clint Eastwood-directed flick starring Bradley Cooper is quickly becoming the No. 2 war film of all time at the North American box office, not accounting for inflation, with a domestic total of $200.1 million.

Third place went to Paddington, starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Bonneville, which grossed an additional $12.4 million for a $40.1 million total.

Rounding out the top five were Kevin Hart‘s new comedy The Wedding Ringer and Liam Neeson‘s Taken 3, which brought in $11.6 million and $7.6 million, respectively.

Meanwhile, Johnny Depp and Gwyneth Paltrow‘s new comedy Mordecai fell below expectations, only making $4.1 million.

Jennifer Aniston new film Cake opened in 482 theaters, earning an estimated $1 million for a screen average of $2,074.

Why would anyone want to see Jennifer Lopez’s movie. Even from the first 10 seconds of its trailer, you can understand how horrible it is.

  • SkinnyFat

I’m glad American Sniper is a huge hit. Everyone should see it.

  • SkinnyFat

Next week it’ll be out of the top 10

  • carrie

I read Chris Kyle’s autobiography last year so no thanks

  • emmafabulous

    Spot on.

  • Mercyneal

Really? Why is that? Go, American Sniper. He fought for your country, pal.

  • carrie

He wrote himself that he liked to kill ,he ‘s very racist, very Manichean .He lied on some events about Jesse Ventura ( Ventura won his trial) and probably Katrina ( he wrote he killed some persons without trial)…
I know that the Chris Kyle of the movie is different of the Chris Kyle of the autobiography and the minimum for a biopic is to show an accurate portrait.

I heard that “The Boy Next Door” only cost 4 million to make. They recouped back their budget and then some. 11 million profit. So Jennifer Lopez is no dim bulb. I hope she and her co-star asked for some of the back end. They made like 80% more than what the film cost. In one weekend. So it’s a hit despite the criticism. I think for a Latino cast to be in a major movie. It bodes well for that community. Jennifer Lopez is a bonafide Movie Star. I am happy for her for some strange reason and the promotion she and her co-star did was epic. She is a very smart business lady. I hope to see more of her co-star Ryan Guzman. I think he has star appeal. It was campy fun. No harm no foul. See you at the Movies!!!???

The movie is basically fiction, that’s why so many like it.

Totally agree with Christopher I. Gomes comment below. I’m not especially a fan but good for Jennifer! A Latina actress in her 40s making her own opportunities and tripling the budget of her movie in opening weekend is impressive. Meanwhile Depp despite his numerous recent flops got paid millions to make another self-indulgent movie that barely made the same as the tiny total budget of J.Lo’s movie. The advantages of being a white male in Hollywood…

  • carrie

    It’s a biopic adapted of Kyle’s autobiography

The man is a hero and did his job. He saved a lot of soldiers. Whatever else happened doesn’t negate that. He came home damaged like many other soldiers.

The Boy Next Door was a gr8 movie… not the best but it was worth seeeing this weekend.
