Naya Rivera Didn't Get Along With Lea Michele, But Knows She 'Could Actually Be Good' for Cory Monteith

Naya Rivera is dishing on all the behind-the-scenes drama from her time Glee.

The 29-year-old actress talks candidly about her “feud” with co-star Lea Michele in her new book Sorry, Not Sorry: Dreams, Mistakes & Growing Up.

“One of the Glee writers once said that Lea and I were like two sides of the same battery and that about sums us up,” Naya wrote. “We are both strong willed and competitive – not just with each other but with everyone – and that’s not a good mixture.”

Naya continued, “As the show progressed, though, that friendship started to break down, especially as Santana moved from a background character to one with bigger plot lines and more screen time. I think Rachel – erm, I mean Lea – didn’t like sharing the spotlight. On top of that, she had a hard time separating work from our outside friendship, whereas it was a lot easier for me. I’m not offended when people offer feedback or criticism, and if things get heated on set, I try to keep perspective. We’re all stressed, yes, but we’re all working toward the same goal, so laugh it off and keep it movin’. Lea was a lot more sensitive, though, and it seemed like she blamed me for anything and everything that went wrong.”

“If I’d complained about anyone or anything, she’d assumed I was b-tching about her,” Naya wrote. “Soon, she started to ignore me, and eventually it got to the point where she didn’t say a word to me for all of season six. Lea and I definitely weren’t the best of friends, and I doubt we’ll ever sit on her couch and eat kale together again, but the rumors of our ‘feud’ were blown out of proportion.”

As for Lea‘s relationship with Cory Monteith, Naya wrote, “When Cory and Lea started dating, it was a total surprise. The more serious they got, the less Cory hung out with us and the more he seemed like a different person. One year he came back from the break between seasons super skinny. He said he’d been spending a lot of time at the gym and was trying to be responsible – not spending money all the time and buying crazy cars like he used to. My personal feelings for Lea aside, I knew that she wasn’t a partier, so I felt like maybe their relationship could actually be good for him. I was happy for Cory to have a stable influence in his life, wherever it was he found it.”

Now this is tasty tea. Lemme grab biscuits.

I find it funny those “celebrities” dishing and revealing about behind the scenes gossip. She’s jealous that Lea has job in Hollywood and she didn’t get after Glee wrapped. This kinda of thin she’s doing make look her bad to get a new job. Professional people never talk bad things to others.

  • Naynay

are you stupid or what ? she’s basically saying that it was her fault too how is she jealous ? the news was already out so she just wanted to clarify the situation ! not everyone has to be friends, some people just don’t get along

Naya’s Lea envy has always been clear and out of control. Nay already doesn’t have a career and won’t ever have one so she might as well get some money out of this book. What I find most interesting about her book is that she wasn’t surprised that her ex Mark turned out to be a pedophile. WTF? How could you date someone like that?!!

  • Shell

I can sorta get how she was jealous as for the last few seasons, it did turn into the Lea show at the expense of others who were just as talented and the rumours about Lea being difficult is nothing new. Saying that though, I don’t know why she is bringing it all up again just to try and peddle a book that you don’t need to be a psychic to know will fail.

Lea Michelle has stans??? LOL!!! Chile…

I believe what she’s saying about Lea. But it’s really stupid airing it in public. Actors have egos and a lot of them are assholes, but because of it they usually know to keep the behind the scene stuff for themselves, no one wants to open that Pandora’s box.
I hope this books sells huge for her because i don’t see her getting a job in Hollywood. No one wants to work with someone who will sell them out.

Naya saying lea didn’t want to share the spotlight with her doesn’t make sense. There video footage of an interview with Lea Naya and a few other cast mates at comic con. In this video it showed both Naya and Lea saying how they asked Ryan’s and other show creaters to give them more screen time/ storylines together. She wanted to work with her.

  • Rogue180

I can see Lea acting all jealous because she wasn’t the female with the majority of lines. Now years later Naya is without work, and Lea only have it because of Ryan Murphy, Bet she can’t act all Diva with Emma Roberts or Jamie Lee Curtis as they are the stars of Scream Queens. How time change.

  • Laura

Talking negative about a co star could possible hurt Naya more in the end because of what your saying. I liked her and was really hoping she stayed positive with her feelings on all her former cast mates. Better to say nothing at all if you have nothing nice to say.

  • Gina

What year was the comic con interview, cuz Naya said things went downhill during season 6?

  • Laura

Don’t remember. Probably on you tube now. But just remember watching it.

  • Amber

I know some of this is shade, but I believe everything Naya said. Her summation of Lea Michele seems quite accurate.

  • Amber

And Amber Riley, too. She and Lea Michele got into it because Lea didn’t want to share, and Amber Riley felt like she deserved more, and f*cking right she did!

It’s really a shame that people can’t put ego aside and learn how to lift one another up. All three of them have powerhouse voices and they are all unique and beautiful in different ways.

“I find most interesting about her book is that she wasn’t surprised that her ex Mark turned out to be a pedophile. WTF? How could you date someone like that?!!”
Did you even read what she said? The title was clickbait. She basically said she got dumped by him and that god was looking out for her. He’s someone that she’ll never regret not being with. They took this one line:
“I can’t say I was totally shocked, but still – WTF?”

And turned it to make it seem like she knew all along that he’d be hoarding child pornography, when this was not the case. Nor is it ever implied.

    look ma, another drama queen

  • Rogue180

Yes, but at the end she is basically confirming all the gossip over the years about Michele. On and Off Glee. Nothing new about her.

  • Shell

Lea has a good voice, I’m not denying that but her music career has proved she is only suited to certain songs. Amber however, always blew you away with whatever she sang and I do feel she was the best out of the females on the show but you knew if it was a good song that it would be either be Rachel, Kurt or Blaine who got the lead vocal while the rest served as back up.

  • Jo

Amber Riley was awful. I was so tired of hearing her sing the exact same song the exact same way. When she got kicked off, good riddance.

  • Amber

Very true. I like Naya’s voice just as much as Amber’s, I think she has a unique and interesting tone to her voice and whenever they would duet together it was phenomenal (River Deep Mountain High, Rumor Has It/Someone Like You).

This is a classic story. Same thing happened on 90210 when Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth had issues. Brenda was initially billed as the lead character and when the other girls like Jennie started getting more screen time and they developed her character there was drama on set. I can see Lea Michele behaving how Naya said she did.
