Fyre Festival Organizer Billy McFarland Arrested on Wire Fraud Charges

Billy McFarland, one of the organizers behind the disastrous Fyre Festival, has been arrested on charges of wire fraud.

The fest founder was taken into custody by the F.B.I. on Friday (June 30) in New York City.

According to Manhattan U.S. attorney Joon Kim, Billy gave fake documents to investors to get money.

“As alleged, William McFarland promised a ‘life changing’ music festival but in actuality delivered a disaster. McFarland allegedly presented fake documents to induce investors to put over a million dollars into his company and the fiasco called the Fyre Festival. Thanks to the investigative efforts of the FBI, McFarland will now have to answer for his crimes,” Joon said in a statement.

If charged, he can face up to 20 years in jail.
