Ethan Couch, aka Affluenza Teen, Apprehended in Mexico

Ethan Couch, the teenager who was once famously dubbed the “Affluenza teen,” was captured in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico on Monday (December 28) after he was missing and on the run, CNN reports.

The 18-year-old criminal pleaded guilty back in 2013 to killing four people in an accident involving drunk driving. He was speeding and drinking during the time of the crash.

During his trial, Ethan‘s lawyer made the case that his wealthy parents should share the blame because they were protecting him from the consequences of his actions. The term “affluenza teen” came into play, although it is not a condition recognized by the American Psychiatric Association.

It was discovered in early December that Ethan had skipped out on a meeting with his probation officer. Ethan was reportedly seen partying with alcohol in a clip, and he fled the country when the video surfaced. Drinking is in violation of his parole, and he could face 10 years for his actions.

Ethan and his mother were detained in Mexico. Tonya Couch could face prison time as well for hindering the apprehension of her convicted son.
