George Floyd's Daughter Gianna Has Been Given A Full Ride To Texas Southern University

Gianna Floyd sadly buried her dad, George Floyd, this week, after he was senselessly murdered over the Memorial Day holiday in Minneapolis.

Now, Texas Southern University is providing Gianna with a full ride scholarship to their university when she reaches age.

“Mr. Floyd was a lifelong citizen of the Third Ward and a revered graduate of Jack Yates High School. The Board, in conjunction with the TSU Foundation Board, has approved a fund to provide a full scholarship for Floyd’s beloved daughter, Gianna,” TSU shared in a post on Facebook.

The statement added, “TSU’s executive and academic staff will prepare a place for Miss Floyd if she wishes to attend the University.”

While many have applauded the school for the gesture, some have also spoken out and said the university should also provide scholarships for Mr. Floyd’s four other children as well.

Gianna, along with her mom Roxie, gave an interview following George‘s death.

George Floyd & Derek Chauvin Knew Each Other & 'Bumped Heads,' According to Former Coworker

More details are surfacing regarding the murder of George Floyd, which sparked protests globally against systemic racism and police brutality.

Derek Chauvin, the officer currently charged with second-degree murder, apparently not only knew George, but the two “bumped heads,” according to former coworker, David Pinney via CBS News on Wednesday (June 10).

The two both worked as security at a nightclub, and had an apparent history according to their former coworker.

“He knew him,” the coworker said.

“How well did he know him?” CBS News asked.

“I would say pretty well,” he replied, adding that “They bumped heads.”

“It has a lot to do with Derek being extremely aggressive within the club with some of the patrons, which was an issue.”

Maya Santamaria, the owner of the club, talked about how Derek treated Black patrons in an interview as well.

“Do you think Derek had a problem with Black people?” CBS News asked.

“I think he was afraid and intimidated,” Maya said.

“By Black folks?” CBS News clarified.

“Yeah,” Maya added.

George‘s family also believes that it was partially personal, and their lawyer has called for a first-degree murder charge “because we believe he knew who George Floyd was.”

George Floyd was laid to rest with a final funeral ceremony in Houston on Tuesday (June 9).
