Armie Hammer Nabs Film Rights from Drug Lord 'La Barbie'

Armie Hammer has secured the life rights for the drug lord La Barbie, who is one of El Chapo‘s most infamous rivals.

The 42-year-old, whose real name is Edgar Valdez-Villarreal, pleaded guilty to drug trafficking and money laundering earlier this month in Atlanta and now he will be giving Armie access to all of his life stories for an upcoming movie project.

“Owning La Barbie’s life rights was the most important thing to us,” Armie told BuzzFeed News. “We knew that having direct access to him meant access to stories that were never intended to see the light of day.”

Armie‘s quest to get the rights to Edgar‘s life started when he was arrested on marijuana charges in Texas back in 2012. His wife Elizabeth Chambers contacted the top lawyer in the area, who just so happened to represent the drug lord too.

Elizabeth contacted me when Armie was still in jail over a little marijuana charge and she talked to me for the first 20 minutes about getting life rights to Edgar‘s story, and then she said, ‘By the way, my husband is in jail. Can you get him out?’” attorney Kent Schaffer said.

Armie and Elizabeth worked for nearly three years to obtain the rights and now they plan on producing a movie or television series based on La Barbie’s life.
