Tilda Swinton accepts the Golden Lion Award on stage at the 2020 Venice Film Festival‘s opening ceremony on Wednesday (September 2) in Venice, Italy.
The 59-year-old Oscar-winning actress was honored for her career achievements and she gave a nod to her fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe co-star Chadwick Boseman at the end of her speech.
Tilda concluded the speech by saying, “Viva Venezia. Cinema cinema cinema. Wakanda Forever. Nothing but love.”
If you didn’t know, Tilda played The Ancient One in both Doctor Strange and Avengers: Endgame. Chadwick, who played T’Challa/Black Panther, tragically died last week after a four-year battle with colon cancer.
During her speech, Tilda also talked about the power of moviegoing.
“Cinema is my happy place, my true motherland. Its fellowship is my heart’s family tree. The names on the list of those awarded this honor, meanwhile, they are the names of my masters. They’re the elders of my tribe. The poets of the language I love above others. I sing their songs in the bath. I’m the punk kid film nut hitching a ride to the station to get to the foothills of the heights of their achievements,” she said.
Earlier in the day, Tilda paid tribute to Chadwick with another touching moment at the festival.
