Tilda Swinton & Idris Elba Generate Oscar Buzz at Cannes with 'Three Thousand Years of Longing'

The Oscar buzz for 2023 has already begun thanks to the films premiering at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival!

Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba hit the red carpet for the premiere of their highly anticipated film Three Thousand Years of Longing on Friday night (May 20) in Cannes, France.

Idris was joined on the red carpet by his wife Sabrina.

The new film, directed by George Miller, is generating Oscar buzz for all the main players.

“With its imperfect perfection, the first contender for Oscar’s most coveted prize has arrived. Two of Miller’s films have received nominations: Babe (1995) and Mad Max: Fury Road (2015). This is hands-down his most narrative-rich achievement, something that could bring him three Oscar noms as a producer, director and co-writer,” Variety reports.

The outlet also thinks Idris and Tilda will score acting noms!

Make sure to watch the trailer, which was just released this morning.

FYI: Tilda is wearing Chanel. Sabrina is wearing a custom Tony Ward Couture gown and Tiffany & Co. jewelry.

Tilda Swinton Gets Three Wishes from Idris Elba in 'Three Thousand Years of Longing' Trailer - Watch Now!

The upcoming movie Three Thousand Years of Longing has debuted its first trailer, minutes before the film premieres at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival!

The highly anticipated film is director George Miller‘s first movie to be released since his smash hit Mad Max: Fury Road in 2015.

Here is the synopsis: “Dr Alithea Binnie (Tilda Swinton) is an academic – content with life and a creature of reason. While in Istanbul attending a conference, she happens to encounter a Djinn (Idris Elba) who offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom. This presents two problems. First, she doubts that he is real and second, because she is a scholar of story and mythology, she knows all the cautionary tales of wishes gone wrong. The Djinn pleads his case by telling her fantastical stories of his past. Eventually she is beguiled and makes a wish that surprises them both.”

The movie is set to hit theaters on August 31.

Tilda was seen in a vintage taxi while filming the scenes for the upcoming film.

Here’s a plot summary: “A scholar, content with life, encounters a Djinn who offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom. Their conversation, in a hotel room in Istanbul, leads to consequences neither would have expected.” The movie also stars Idris Elba.

According to a report from Deadline last Christmas, the film is set to conclude filming in early spring for a planned September 2021 arrival in theaters.

The Mad Max director previously said “It’s a movie that is very strongly visual, but it’s almost the opposite of Fury Road. It’s almost all interior and there’s a lot of conversation in it. There are action scenes, but they are by the by and I guess you could say it’s the anti-Mad Max.”

Tilda recently got candid about her sexuality in an interview.

Charlize Theron Will Not Reprise Role in Furiosa Spinoff Movie

George Miller, the director of the hit movie Mad Max: Fury Road, is opening up about the upcoming Furiosa spinoff movie.

Charlize Theron played the role of Furiosa in the Oscar-winning film, but she will not be returning for the spinoff. The upcoming movie will focus on a younger Furiosa and auditions have begun to find an actress in her 20s.

“For the longest time, I thought we could just use CG de-aging on Charlize, but I don’t think we’re nearly there yet,” Miller said in an interview with The New York Times. “Despite the valiant attempts on The Irishman, I think there’s still an uncanny valley. Everyone is on the verge of solving it, particular Japanese video-game designers, but there’s still a pretty wide valley, I believe.”

The screenplay for the Furiosa spinoff was actually written before Mad Max: Fury Road was even shot so that the character’s backstory could be understood. Miller said, “It was purely a way of helping Charlize and explaining it to ourselves.”

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who appeared in Fury Road, says, “I got to read it when I was cast. It’s genius. I’ve always wondered if that movie’s going to get made.”

Anya Taylor-Joy Is Being Considered for the 'Mad Max: Fury Road' Spin-Off About Furiosa!

Anya Taylor-Joy is in talks to star in a Mad Max: Fury Road spin-off for the character Furiosa!

George Miller, who directed and co-wrote the Oscar-winning movie, is on board to make the upcoming spin-off and Variety reports that he plans on shooting it in 2021.

Anya had a meeting with George via Skype, according to the outlet.

Charlize Theron, who played Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road, has said she would play the character again if George was involved in the project.

“I love that character, I loved working with George Miller, and if he was ever on board, yeah, I would be in right from the beginning,” she previously told ScreenRant. “With him it’s kind of like working with Jason Reitman. I wouldn’t even need to see a script, I trust him that much and it’s great when you have that with a filmmaker.”
